Elżbieta graciously and warmly welcomed us to the renovated library of which she is the Director before it reopened to the public. The combination of the restored Jewish art on the walls and the modern facilities made this former synagogue a very inviting place. Elżbieta's husband was kind enough to act as our translator.
Elżbieta, która jest dyrektorem Biblioteki Biecz, przyjęła nas z wielką serdecznością w odremontowanej bibliotece, zanim jeszcze jej pomieszczenia zostały udostępnione czytelnikom. Połączenie odrestaurowanych żydowskich malowideł ściennych oraz nowoczesnego wyposażenia biblioteki czynią z budynku po dawnej synagodze bardzo atrakcyjne miejsce. Dla potrzeb wywiadu naszym tłumaczem zgodził się być mąż Elżbiety.
Bio
Elżbieta Knapik, was born in and lives in Biecz. She is a librarian, a graduate of the University of Warsaw, and author of the "Bibliography of the Regional Museum in Biecz for the years 1953-2002" and "City of Biecz: Bibliography." Elzbieta has been the director of the Biecz Library since 2000. For years, she has been making efforts to preserve the Jewish cultural heritage of her hometown. Thanks to her efforts, the paintings in the former Talmud Torah Synagogue, which now houses the Library, have been restored.
Elżbieta Knapik, urodziła się i mieszka w Bieczu. Bibliotekoznawca, absolwentka Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, autorka „Bibliografia Muzeum Regionalnego w Bieczu za lata 1953-2002", współautorka „Miasto Biecz: bibliografia". Od 2000 r. dyrektor Biblioteki Biecz. Od lat czyni starania w celu zachowania żydowskiego dziedzictwa kulturalnego. Dzięki jej staraniom zostały odnowione malowidła w dawnej synagodze Talmud Tora, w której obecnie mieści się Biblioteka.
