Professor Wierzbieniec has created an amazing event—really a series of events: "The International Holocaust Remembrance Days in Rzeszów and Podkarpacie." During five days every January, people from all over the world gather to remember the Holocaust in many different towns throughout the region. I was fortunate to have been able to attend in 2019. Wierzbieniec points out clearly that not only did the Germans attempt to destroy Jewish life in Poland, but Jewish memory as well.
Profesor Wierzbieniec jest pomysłodawcą niezwykłego cyklu wydarzeń – obchodów Międzynarodowego Dnia Pamięci o Ofiarach Holokaustu na Podkarpaciu. Co roku w styczniu przez pięć dni goście z całego świata zbierają się w wielu miastach tego regionu, by upamiętnić Zagładę Żydów. Miałam to szczęście, że udało mi się uczestniczyć w obchodach w 2019 roku. Podczas naszej rozmowy prof. Wierzbieniec podkreśla fakt, że niemieccy naziści chcieli nie tylko wymordować polskich Żydów, ale także unicestwić pamięć o nich.

Professor Wacław Wierzbieniec is a Polish historian specializing in the history and culture of the Jews in Poland in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and the history of modern Poland. Since 2008, he has been the organizer of the Podkarpackie Celebrations of Holocaust Remembrance Days. He is a professor at the University of Rzeszów.
Profesor Wacław Wierzbieniec jest polskim historykiem specjalizującym się w historii i kulturze Żydów w Polsce w XIX i XX wieku oraz w historii współczesnej Polski. Od 2008 roku jest organizatorem podkarpackich obchodów Dni Pamięci o Holokauście. Jest profesorem na Uniwersytecie Rzeszowskim.
