Adam Bartosz talks about the many initiatives he has championed to remember the Jews of Tarnów and his point of view on Jewish remembrance as an ethnographer. Poor Adam: I came a day early for his interview, the videographers took two hours to set up and by the time we started filming (outside) it was freezing. I am so grateful that he didn't bail!
Adam Bartosz opowiada o wielu inicjatywach, jakie na przestrzeni lat wspierał w swojej pracy na rzecz upamiętniania Żydów Tarnowa. Dzieli się też swoim etnograficznym punktem widzenia na pracę z pamięcią o społeczności żydowskiej. Biedny Adam: przyjechałam na wywiad o dzień za wcześnie, kamerzystom ustawianie sprzętu zajęło dwie godziny, a kiedy zaczęliśmy w końcu nagrywać rozmowę (na zewnątrz) zrobiło się bardzo zimno. Jestem mu bardzo wdzięczna za to, że mnie nie zawiódł i udzielił mi wywiadu!
Bio
Adam Bartosz, ethnographer and museologist, was the director of the Regional Museum in Tarnow from 1980 to 2012. He created the permanent exhibition Gypsies/Roma History and Culture (1990)—the first exhibition of its kind in the world—which is known as “the Roma museum.” Adam is the author of numerous studies of Roma, Jewish and regional history, which have been published locally as well as abroad. Adam Bartosz teaches Roma culture and history at the Pedagogic University in Kraków. He is the chairman of the Committee for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Tarnów as well as the Tarnów Culture Association. He is also the coordinator of the renovations of several Jewish cemeteries and other monuments in Poland. He received a special grant from the EU for the renovation of the big Jewish cemetery in Tarnów (2017-2019).
Adam Bartosz – etnograf i muzeolog. W latach 1980-2012 był dyrektorem Muzeum Okręgowego w Tarnowie. Jest autorem stałej wystawy muzealnej Cyganie/Romowie. Historia i Kultura, która jest pierwszą tego typu wystawą na świecie, nazywaną Romskim Muzeum. A. Bartosz jest autorem wielu opracowań na temat Romów, Żydów i historii regionalnej, publikowanych w kraju i zagranicą. Na krakowskim Uniwersytecie Pedagogicznym ma wykłady poświęcone historii i kulturze Romów. Jest prezesem Komitetu Opieki nad Zabytkami Kultury Żydowskiej w Tarnowie. Jest koordynatorem renowacji kilkunastu cmentarzy i innych zabytków żydowskich na terenie Polski. Uzyskał specjalny grant z UE na renowację wielkiego żydowskiego cmentarza w Tarnowie (2017-2019).
